A:
Folate is a vital B vitamin from eating leafy green veggies like kale, arugula (rocket), spinach and chard. Most standard store-brand vitamins use Folic Acid as Folate.
However, between 15-30% of the population has a genetic mutation on their MTHFR gene called a SNP. This gene expression means you cannot methylate or process folic acid. It gets stuck inside you.
Since folic acid is added to fortified and enriched bread and cereal made from corn and wheat flour, those with the MTHFR gene expression can end up with an excessive amount in the body.
Too much folic acid blocks the ability of folate to bind to the body’s natural receptors. This equates to a lack of folate in the body which is needed to make red and white blood cells, convert carbohydrates into energy, and produce DNA and RNA.
That is why you will not find folic acid in the Libido Trilogy. Instead, we use a methylated folate that is compatible with the MTHFR SNP.
So whether you have the gene mutation or not, you are safe.
